SeaCell sees an opportunity to substantially improve how wireless services are delivered to the cruise line industry. Network quality remains high and reliability is improved, yet overall costs are reduced significantly and the ability to offer more and expanded services is increased dramatically.
SeaCell offers a full-featured, Internet Protocol (IP) based, decentralized wireless solution that delivers voice, data, text messaging, and multi-media services to cruise lines for their passengers and crew to use while at sea. Passengers use their own phones since SeaCell can support all cellular protocols (i.e., GSM and CDMA).
SeaCell services are built leveraging new IP based technology, so it can realize substantial reductions in capital network costs, deployment costs, and network operating costs, which can be passed along to the end users. SeaCell’s approach reduces a cruise line’s passengers’ voice communication cost up to 50%.
Current cruise line wireless providers do not offer end to end IP based technology solutions, resulting in higher costs and an inability to offer a full array of wireless services. Additionally, current cruise line providers use a satellite link for all calls, including on-board calling as well as ship-to-shore calls.
SeaCell represent a substantial improvement in current sea based mobile wireless thinking – it enables the migration of wireless from being highly centralized to distributed.
