SeaCell sees an opportunity to substantially improve how cellular services are delivered to the cruise line industry. Network quality remains high and reliability is improved, yet overall costs are reduced significantly and the ability to offer more and expanded services is increased dramatically.
The Problem:Land based switched communications are the “state of the art” for existing providers. The current satellite “ship to shore” cellular model is prohibitively expensive and most passengers and crew wait until they reach port to make calls and check email, which are also priced at a premium by roamer networks. Additionally, the current “ship to shore” model also makes onboard ship communications prohibitively expensive and not economically feasible, resulting in very limited wireless usage or activity.
The Solution:SeaCell provides network technology for wireless switching operations on board the ship, thus significantly reducing costs compared to current providers. SeaCell networks conduct all local network operations on the ship, thus crew-to-crew, crew-to-passenger and passenger-to-passenger links are all competed on the ship with only land based calls linked over satellite. This parsing to the most efficient link allows SeaCell to reduce costs by 60% over ship to shore rates, and 50% over current service providers, thereby enabling SeaCell to offer a more effective economic package to the cruise line and the passengers and crew on board.
